Volunteer youth from Shiriki Organization arrive at the Maragua farm to a warm welcome by the local community. Five volunteers form the initial crew to begin agricultural development in Maragua. The volunteers include Ras Githaka, Ras Maruri, Ras Ambassa, Ras Rukundo, and Farmer Malonza. Shiriki organization is a Ras Tafari NGO set to uplift Africa's people through environmentally sustainable food security initiatives. The volunteers, some born and grown in the ghetto and others who had to 'run' away from their rural origins, have shun the city life whose future in terms of food security is grim.

The virgin land at Maragua, granted to the organisation
on free lease by a benefactor. |
We at Shiriki, have been working towards this exodus since early this year, when the said piece of land was donated to us by a well-wisher. The mission at Maragua is to establish community development projects, with agriculture as the main socio-economic undertaking. We practice and educate farmers on organic agriculture for sustainability and income.
