Farmers Field Day

We learned from some community members and public notices about a farmers meeting that is being held at the local agriculture fairground at Gakoigo, the meeting was organized by the Ministry of Agriculture and incorporated education from many different sectors of agriculture including bio-gas, forestry, and they encourage the planting of more indigenous crops so that the people can move away from the total dependency on maize.

During the meeting, we shared time with officials from the Ministry and established ways to carry on working together amongst them being beneficiaries of the farmers training programs that they already have, trainer for trainers programs so we can share the knowledge we gain and also working on this farm together so that we can move towards being more of a demonstration farm for the community.

We also linked up with other public officials at the meeting including the area Community Development Officer who, after we reasoned, expressed interest in working with us consistently on community education. We also linked with the agriculture extension officer who covers the area where our farm is located and who expressed much willingness to work closely with us.

We got to meet a lot of farmers from our area, shared what we have, and a lot of the farmers have started visiting our farm to reason more on natural farming and land utilization.

Recognizing Afrika as the cradle of civilization, and a land of abundance in terms of human and natural resources, we have set out to work with the continent’s local communities to tap into these resources, utilizing and conserving for future generations.

Some of the ways in which we are doing this include setting up organic agriculture farms where people can participate and learn, using the arts, music, public education, media and other forums to re-educate the Afrikan population about sustainable natural living.

We acknowledge the youth population as the vehicle through which Afrika’s aims of self-sufficiency and cultural independence can be realized. Seventy percent of the continent’s population is the youth. Should they be involved in the preservation, maintenance and continuance of traditional wisdom, as well as innovation of practical modern resource utilization methods, then Afrika will no longer stand inadequate in the eyes of world opinion. It will in fact be once again at the vanguard of the world’s moral and material progress. This is what we aspire to.

Our objective thus, is to involve the youth in agriculture, the natural prerequisite towards real and tangible development. Out of this involvement, the youth population will be directly engaged in providing and uplifting the basic necessities of food, clothing and shelter. It will lessen their susceptibility to misuse and exploitation by politicians, churches, vampire industries and other devouring forces.

We are working to ensure that all, and especially the youth, grow to value, recognize and respect our diversity of traditional knowledge, food, language and culture, and the way we organize and express ourselves and at the same time rejecting technologies and practices that undercut our future food producing capacities, damage the environment, put our health at risk and create all forms of injustice.

This is to call on all discerning souls universally to step up and cooperate to contribute towards the path which will lead to a freer, cleaner and ultimately sustainable new world. It is a sight to behold.
